Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers, the Heart and Soul of Every Community
Each year many special people like you donate many hours to the students and programs at The Maryland School for the Blind. Volunteers assist in the classrooms, at mealtimes, accompany students on field trips and give ongoing support to our staff that is very much needed and appreciated.
The volunteer opportunities at The Maryland School for the Blind are unpaid experiences in a variety of areas including: Student Services, Residential Services, Education and Instruction, Administration, Athletics, Extra-Curricular Activities and Special Events.
Qualifying Criteria:
Minimum age requirement of 16 years of age. If a high school student, a letter of recommendation from teacher or guidance counselor must accompany application.
Minimum commitment of 4 hours per week for 3 months.
Successfully complete an interview process, fingerprinting for background check , drug screen/physical, an orientation to the school, Child Protective Services Background Check and an Annual Tuberculosis Test.
Volunteers are placed on assignment 3 times per year (October, January, and June.) All applications and supporting paperwork should be submitted by the 15th of the month prior to the assignment starting. Assignments are based on staff requests, availability, schedule, and area of interest. An application is not a guarantee for volunteer placement at The Maryland School for the Blind.
