PHYSICAL THERAPIST

SUMMARY:  With supervision, provides physical therapy assessment, treatment, and consultation as a member of the multidisciplinary team.

 

 

Essential Functions:

1.   Conducts physical therapy assessments.                                                                             

2.   Manages a student caseload using an integrated therapy model: provides direct and

      indirect service, maintains records., and participates in interdisciplinary programming.              

3.   Provides consultation to staff, parents, and community based professionals                             

4.   Monitors the implementation of program plans.                                                                      

5.   Designs, orders or fabricates, as necessary, updates and monitors the use of adaptive positioning equipment, assistive devices, and wheelchairs.                                                                                        

6.   Continues professional development and education.

 

 

Work Schedule: 35 daytime hours, Monday through Friday, with a daily one hour unpaid lunch.  Frequent flextime scheduling and some early evening assignments.  This position has an annual 11-month schedule.

 

 

Qualifications:

1.   Comprehensive knowledge of normal/abnormal sensori-motor development and musculoskeletal function/dysfunction.

2.   Comprehensive knowledge of appropriate evaluative and treatment techniques with multi-disabled individuals 0-21 years of age.

3.   Comprehensive knowledge of orthotics, wheelchairs, adaptive positioning equipment, and assistive devices appropriate for individuals 0-21.

4.   Comprehensive knowledge of proper body mechanics.

5.   General knowledge of disabling childhood conditions such as mental retardation, cerebral palsy and traumatic brain injury and their impact on sensori-motor and musculoskeletal development.

6.   Current licensure by the Maryland State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners, certification eligibility by MSDE.
