BALTIMORE, MD—August 6, 2007—The Maryland School for
the Blind announces the appointment of Carl D. Lancaster, Jr. as interim president
of the school. Effective August 6, 2007.
Mr. Lancaster will serve as interim president during the recruitment process
for a new President of the school.
Mr. Lancaster is a former administrator, counselor
and teacher of 33 years within the Prince
George’s County Public Schools. In addition, he served for twenty years as a
member of the Board of Trustees of the Maryland State Retirement and Pension
System, including three-plus years as Chairman and fourteen years as
Vice-Chairman of the Investment Committee, overseeing the investment of assets
totaling some $40 billion dollars.
Mr. Lancaster brings to The Maryland School for the
Blind a career in education, as well as extensive experience in human resource
management, financial management, government relations and public relations.
Mr. Lancaster will be formally introduced to the
staff of The Maryland School for the Blind at a school-wide staff meeting on
August 20, 2007. A copy of his resume

Located in the northeast corner of
Baltimore, The Maryland School for the Blind (MSB)
is a private, nonprofit school dedicated to educating children and youth from
infancy to age 21 who are blind, visually impaired, and multiply disabled. Each
year, the school serves more than 800 students throughout the state. In addition to the traditional classroom
education, MSB offers
comprehensive services including; residential, braille and low-vision
instruction, travel training, transition, health and therapy services, career
education, and outreach.
